Rugby Update - 25th February 2021
A word from our very own Director of Rugby, Dan Hemingway.
Dear all,
I really hope this finds you and your families in good spirits and feeling more positive about
the road out of this pandemic. It has certainly been a challenging time for us all.
As a club, we have continued to do whatever we can to ensure we are in a good position
for the safe return of rugby and our members. There has been work going on to improve
the changing room area, the gym, to keep the pitches in good condition and of course to
ensure the financial security of the club. But of course, what we all want to do is get back
to playing some rugby!
Return of Rugby
From the announcements made by the Prime Minister on Monday, the date we are all now
looking forward to is Monday 29th March. On this date, outdoor team sports should be
allowed to return, and we can’t wait!
This will see the return of our full rugby training schedule:
Monday - O2 Touch
Tuesday and Thursday - Senior Men, Senior Women and Colts Training
Wednesday - Junior Training
Sunday - Mini and Junior Training
The plan will be to commence full Mini and Junior training at the first possible opportunity,
i.e. on Sunday 4th April. Whilst we are well aware this is Easter Sunday, we still want to provide rugby for all those who wish to take advantage.
We fully understand that people may have differing views on how quickly to get involved
but rest assured that our priority will always be to keep everybody safe.
RFU Guidance
As things stand, we are awaiting further guidance from the RFU over what constraints may
be placed upon the return, and we will communicate these as soon as we have more
information. The RFU have acknowledged the return on the 29th of March and stated that
they will be in communication with the government immediately to provide more clarity on
exactly what we will be able to provide.
We are also hopeful that the RFU will allow playing activity to continue through the
summer months - to make up for the time lost due to the coronavirus. We will keep you up
to date as we find out more.
Easter Rugby Camp
As a way of showing our gratitude for your support over the last 12 months, we are offering
three additional training days during the Easter school holidays. These sessions will
completely FREE of charge to all players who have paid their annual subs for the 2020/21 season. We hope this will go some small way to making up for the rugby that has been lost.

We look forward to seeing you all back at Cooke Fields in the not too distant future, and
fingers crossed for a positive and rugby-filled remainder of 2021!!!
